--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 634\/459;\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>ISF (Importer&nbsp;Security&nbsp;Filing) is just as important as ever!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/border-security\/ports-entry\/cargo-security\/importer-security-filing-102\">https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/border-security\/ports-entry\/cargo-security\/importer-security-filing-102<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Key points:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ISF must be filed prior to departure of the vessel at origin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Importer\u00a0of Record is the party responsible for providing\u00a0and\u00a0filing\u00a0the required information,\u00a0and\u00a0the party CBP assesses penalties to for late, incorrect or incomplete ISF\u00a0filing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is an&nbsp;Importer&nbsp;Security&nbsp;Filing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before merchandise arriving by vessel can be imported into the United States, the \u201cImporter&nbsp;Security&nbsp;Filing&nbsp;(ISF)&nbsp;Importer,\u201d or their agent (e.g., licensed customs broker), must electronically submit certain advance cargo information to CBP in the form of an&nbsp;Importer&nbsp;Security&nbsp;Filing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This requirement only applies to cargo arriving in the United States by ocean vessel; it does not apply to cargo arriving by other modes of transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Information required to be submitted includes Seller name, Buyer name,&nbsp;Importer&nbsp;of Record, Consignee name, Manufacturer (or Supplier), Ship to party, Country of origin of the product, HTS number, Container stuffing location&nbsp;and&nbsp;Consolidator<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Who is Responsible for the&nbsp;Filing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The ISF&nbsp;Importer<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>(the US&nbsp;Importer&nbsp;of Record)<\/strong>&nbsp;(or their agent) is required to submit the&nbsp;Importer&nbsp;Security&nbsp;Filing. The ISF&nbsp;Importer&nbsp;is the party causing the goods to arrive within the limits of a port in the United States by vessel. Typically, the ISF&nbsp;Importer&nbsp;is the goods\u2019 owner, purchaser, consignee, or agent<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">such as a licensed customs broker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Where does the information come from?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ISF is a \u2018partnership\u2019 between Shippers, Forwarders, Consolidators&nbsp;and&nbsp;Importers. Different information is supplied by different parties. But at the end of the day, the&nbsp;Importer&nbsp;is the one ultimately responsible for providing the required data to US Customs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Importers either need to provide their US Customs broker with all the data to file ISF, or they need to rely on their shippers to provide the information to the US Customs broker.
